Lucia went to Bahia in 1970 to organize a group of students who had joined the former Guanabara Dissidence, which by that time had already called itself MR8. There she met Zequinha at a meeting of the various clandestine organizations that operated in Salvador against the dictatorship.
One of the leaders of the Osasco strike in 1968, Zequinha had been imprisoned and tortured. He later joined the VPR (Popular Revolutionary Vanguard), the same organization as Carlos Lamarca. Zequinha was in Salvador representing this organization, which in truth was practically dismantled. Born in the Caatinga (xeric shrubland and thorn forest), in Buriti Cristalino, where his family lived, he intended to establish a base in the region for a future guerrilla in the scrubland. He chose to integrate into the MR8, which at that time was still more structured.
Some time later, Lucia was tracked down and had to go into hiding. The organization then decided to divide the movement in Salvador into two parts. One rural, which would be handed over to João Lopes Salgado, and the urban part, to another person. Practically all the members of this urban part were imprisoned a month after Lucia left Salvador for Rio. Two months later, already in Rio, Lucia was imprisoned and lost contact with what was happening in Bahia. Shortly afterward, Lamarca integrated into the MR-8, together with Yara Yavelberg.
